Manage databases and open phpMyAdmin

Create database credentials, use single sign-on and make changes without exposing or corrupting production data.

Create a database and user

  1. Open the website in Enhance and choose Databases.
  2. Create a database with a name that identifies the application.
  3. Create a separate database user and generate a strong password.
  4. Grant the user only the database access required by the application.
  5. Store the credentials in the application's environment configuration rather than in public files or documentation.

Open phpMyAdmin

Use the phpMyAdmin single sign-on link in the website or database area when it is available. Enhance can provide access without asking you to re-enter server credentials.

  • Export the affected tables before a manual data change.
  • Check the selected database before importing or running SQL.
  • Avoid editing serialized WordPress values with a plain text replacement.
  • Do not leave large database exports in the public document root.

Fix an application database connection error

  1. Confirm the database, username, password and host match the values shown for the website.
  2. Check that the database user still has access to the database.
  3. Review recent password or migration changes.
  4. Test after clearing an application configuration cache when the framework stores environment values.
  5. Restore the database only when there is evidence of data damage, not for a simple credential mismatch.
