Create, download and restore backups

Protect a website before changes and understand the difference between a snapshot, download and restore.

Know what each backup action does

  • Scheduled backups follow the retention and frequency assigned to your hosting package.
  • An on-demand backup captures a recovery point before planned work when the package permits it.
  • A restore replaces selected website, database or email data with content from an earlier recovery point.
  • Backup and Download exports website files and databases as a portable Enhance archive. Cron jobs are not included in the website download.

Create a recovery point

  1. Open Websites and select Manage for the site.
  2. Open Backups and review the time of the latest successful backup.
  3. Choose the on-demand backup action if it is available for your package.
  4. Wait for the backup to report success before starting an update or import.

Restore safely

  1. Identify the last known working time and what changed afterwards.
  2. Choose the smallest restore scope that fixes the problem, such as files, one database or the complete site.
  3. Record any new orders, content or email created after the chosen backup because a restore can replace newer data.
  4. Start the restore and avoid editing the website until it completes.
  5. Test the website, administration, forms and scheduled tasks after restoration.

Download a portable Enhance backup

  1. Open Websites, choose Manage and open Backups.
  2. Choose Backup and Download.
  3. Select website data for files and databases, or email data for mailboxes and passwords.
  4. Keep the downloaded archive private because it can contain database credentials, personal data and email.
Important

Uploading an Enhance backup does not change the primary domain or map new domains. Configure the domain separately after an import.
